T95 TV Box slowest internet speed in network, IPTV buffering,

by polillaa

New to IPTV... I am trying to solve the buffering/time out randomly happening with IPTV. I have a wired T95 Android 10 box wired to the router getting <100Mbps. Speed test takes forever to ping relative to other devices (˜80ms vs 9ms). The server chosen for the speedtest is never the same (or close) as when I run the speedtest in other devices. All other network devices get >300Mbps WiFi or wired.

  1. Why is the internet speed on the TV box so slow? I am not using a VPN. I have done many tests, changing cables, restarting, etc. Same results.
  2. Aside from the speed issue -- Is it possible to setup a VPN through my router such that only the TV box traffic goes through the VPN? I have a Synology RT2600ac.
  3. If the answer to #2 is yes, could you advise on key parameters? I am already using DNS 8.8.8.8
  4. Any configuration tips for the Android box, for example, it is now on DHCP. Should the IP be static?
  5. What about stream format, MPEGTS vs HLS?
  6. Hardware vs Software decoder?

Will appreciate any feedback!

You've mentioned what speeds you are seeing on your internal network but what speed connection do you have to the internet itself? Cable, dsl or fiber? Also T95's are notoriously bad at experiencing thermal throttling issues as the boxes do not get enough air flow to cool the components properly in most cases. For pure IPTV viewing I'd suggest even a 4k firestick or at the high end a Formuler Z8.

It could very well be a thermal throttling issue with the board in the T95. Are you running the speed tests while you are seeing the issues? Cable connections by their very nature of being shared with your neighbors are known to slow down during peak periods. I'm on Rogers gigabit for example averaging over 946 Mbps however during the evening's I've watched that drop as low as 78 Mbps.

1- the box NIC card is rated at 100megs and it will not read more than that 2- google is your best bet. But it will be easier if you just install the vpn app on the box and run it when needed 🤷‍♂️ 3- read #2 4-no 5-i always use default, this will depend on your providers (i have seen different explanations on this subject, however i have never had a problem leaving it at default. It might be different for you though) 6- hardware always, but you might have to switch between all and find out what works best for you. Only make sure to force stop the app every time you make a change

Yes, I have done the tests at various times, day, night, late night with very similar results. What is puzzling me is that this box without running any app, is the only one with significant slower speeds.
