Nvidea shield much better than firestick 4k?

by phimosisjay

Hey guys. Ive had a firestick for a while now and whilst its ok I'm looking to upgrade to the shield pro. Im changing internet providers to virgin as well and will be getting over 100mb speeds. I also use ip vanish. My main question is will i experience less buffering with the shield or is the buffering more likely to be caused by my current speed which is around 20mb on my firestick? Any help would be appreciated!

Nobody has read your question. The answer is no, for IPTV purposes Shield TV is no better or worse than fire stick 4k and will have no effect on any kind of buffering from your provider or ISP. Shield TV just for IPTV is like buying a maxed-out gaming PC to play Solitaire on, yeah it works, but...

Nvidia sheild is the best device out there, period.

No contest.

I ditched the 4K stick I rarely used for a CGTV in my office & have a 2017 Shield Pro in the media center, it's awesome, especially for emulation & networked content.

Shield, no contest. Any of them. I own a 2015 pro and 2 newer models in bedrooms. I've tried rokus, firestick 4k, off brand china streaming boxes - nvidia all the way..

Your not notice any difference just for streaming, I got the tube I have not noticed any speeds or less stuttering.

It's always funny to see the Nvidia fan club beat their chests over the shield. It's almost as if they have to keep reassuring themselves that spending a gross amount of money is normal. Unless you are gaming there is zero justification to get a shield. For high end with a far better remote and more flexible mytv app get a Formuler Z8 or Z8 Pro. If you want to stay with the Firestick and are using an m3u or xtream api server I would suggest installing implayer for a much richer viewing experience.

As for your buffering issues any connection less than 25mbps will buffer. Cable connections even more so as you share "the road" with all of your neighbors who are also on cable. You will see significant slowdowns from the advertised speed (For example my gigabit connection averages 967mbps but has dipped to 87 mbps during evening primetime). IPTV unlike streaming services like Netflix or Prime do not automatically lower stream quality to compensate for slower connections hence the buffering.

Finally download a free wifi analyzer and check the signal strength at the TV. If it is more than -60db then you need a wifi booster or home mesh system. Also check that your neighbors wifi isn't using the same channel or close to it. If that is the case then move your wifi network to an unused channel for less interference.

Good luck

Changing to VM I wouldn't do that so many issues with that company and they are know for throttling etc

Shield is a better device which you would expect it's 3 times the price.

No one can answer your question to many variable factors a Firestick 4k should be fine for iptv so the buffering you get can be for many reasons which is nothing to do with the stick (try other devices and see)

my experience in the last few years is that it mainly comes down to your iptv provider more so than the device. find your self a good low key provider with good support and you will be sorted. you can still get buffering no matter how good your device or internet is if the providers streams aren't the best. highly recommended the shield though!

Of course can’t even comprare the 2

I have the 2nd gen 1080 stick and it handles all the iptv I've thrown at it. Quick and snappy. Never had an issue. Go with the Shield if you plan on doing a bit of gaming along with your iptv.

fracl11

I have both, never had buffering issues with a 100mps speed. try the internet change first if you're happy with the firestick.

Do it. I like it mostly for the clean UI. It’s not trying to sell you HBO or google stuff. Next up is cool. Just works. Remote is kind of wack but the Bluetooth is really good and pairs nicely with whatever you want to use. I have a old firestick remote going now.

Just want to add, yes the shield is the best out there, no question. But I recently bought the amazon cube 2nd gen on sale for £79 and it flies with no issues

The shield is an excellent device. No debating that.

The only thing I would advise is to be sure that the issue (if you're experiencing buffering) is at a device level, and nothing to do with your provider or VPN.

You can throw all the hardware in the world at it, but if the issue isn't the device, then you'll be sorely disappointed.

I recently started experiencing buffering issues with my provider. Tried a bunch of different apps, devices, and VPNs. I even went so far as to throw 8GB of RAM and a 7th gen i7 at it, coupled with an SSD, and still no difference. At the end, the issue is with the IPTV provider.

Hardware doesn't solve everything. Make sure you know why you're buying it.

I upgraded from a fire tv 4k to a shield tv yesterday. I haven’t had too much time with it yet but from what I can see the navigation is the big upgrade for me. Streaming performance isn’t much different honestly (so far) but I’m also on Virgin with their 200mbps package.

Getting around the fire tv OS was irritating at times and over time it’s began to show its age, the shield works so much better to get in and out of apps faster and most of the apps I needed I could just get from the play store rather than side loading, the access to Google services is also another big pro for me.

All-round it feels much better and more powerful, the other things I’ve noticed and really like are the upscaling, the remote itself is great with backlighting, the android TV OS is far superior to the amazon skined android on the fire TV, and thats just after a day of limited use.

Edit: forgot to mention that whilst I didn’t necessarily get any buffering on the fire TV, I would get periods of frame loss and stuttering which all seemed performance related and only got worse over time. The shield obviously handles everything much better and quicker.

Shield is good, but it's a bit overkill if you're only going to use it for IPTV.

Your firestick would probably work better with your improved Internet. It's just their remote is rubbish.

I'd recommend a Formuler box. Z8 or the new Alpha box. Both use My TV online 2 which is worth it's weight in gold.

jpcafe10

How much buffering do you get currently?

I use a private iptv service on my 4k firestick with nord vpn always on and I rarely have any buffering. 68mb connection.

I switched from my Shield to my Firestick after constant buffering issues. My shield was hard wired to my router, my Firestick was of course wifi. I had both on the same channel and watched as two things happened. First, the Shield was a few seconds ahead of the Firestick, which suggested the Shield wasn't building up any sort of an internal buffer to deal with signal loss. The shield buffered rhythmically, every 10 seconds or so. The Firestick didn't buffer at all. Secondly, I disconnected the ethernet cable connected to the Shield and tried it with a wifi connection. It actually improved somewhat but still suffered from buffering. Note: internal buffering refers to the picture being deliberately delayed in order to produce a constant uninterrupted picture. When I say the Shield suffered from buffering, I'm referring to the picture freezing. Leo Laporte, a well known techie, stated the Firestick suffers from overheating issues and recommends a Roku instead. I haven't experienced any overheating issues with mine.

hyndraslic1

I own both and shield is wayy better but it also costs more. Fire stick 4k will probably be able to do what you're trying to achieve with no issues but if you're comparing, Shield is better there's no competition.

Jarrod_Mullins

As long as you have enough money, please do not hesitate to replace firestick with Shield

bicbasher

I've got both devices and the Shield is still clearly the best as it's much faster, but I've used the 4K stick with Tivimate and it works just as well.

IMHO, if you use Tivimate or implayer which you have to pay for, it works fine on the 4K Firestick, but the 'free' apps or Perfect Player don't perform as well.

ExcitementEqual

Thank you . I also was thinking of “upgrading” to the shield due to buffering on firestick and Firestick 4

J_T_Davis

You're issues are almost always due to Wifi unless you've plugged in.

Get a shield, and plug it into an Ethernet port. Your problems will be solved.

shield good for porn
