VPN for Smart TV

by ledafaze

Hello,

I am a starter in IPTV but I do know about it very well to some extent. Now, I have a guy here in Canada that wants to sell IPTV service to me using Smart STB software for my LG TV. I asked him if VON would be needed/necessary but he said no that he has some guys at the backend that does something I don't understand.

I would like to have my own back... Is there a VPN I could use with this LG Smart TV that won't have me do the following?

  1. Use mobile/Computer hotspot
  2. Use a computer-OS router in between the network and my TV
  3. Note that my home router is network supplied

You would have to check if there are any VPN apps available in the LG smart tv App Store. If not, your only option is an external device to run the VPN.

Even if you could run a VPN on your TVs OS it really would not be wise. Although they are called "smart" TVs they don't really have the cpu and ram for the job.

The least you run on your TV directly the better. As the TV menues and use will slow with time. Apps will start to crash and become buggy etc... Most of the time requiring a factory reset. Which can be a real pain when so many settings are concerned.

It's really best to let your TV be a TV and use something like a firestick or Chromecast deal with anything you want to add. It's far less hassle in the long run.

I don’t have a LG Smart TV but I use Surfshark VPN as it’s cheaper than the others and allows you to have unlimited devices which means you could essentially cut the costs if you share it with people. I use a Nvidia Shield so not sure whether it’s on the LG App Store per se. Also, use cash back apps such as Quidco as VPNs typically advertise really good deals on there. For example, Nord VPN had 100% cash back on their 2 year deals last week!!!

if you don't want to use a router or a hot-spot of any kind then your only option is to use a vpn app in the background on your TV. if your TV isn't android based this won't be possible.
