Iptv service and VPN use in Canada..

by TheGeekyBrit

Hi folks, Very new to iptv, just into my first month with a service and forgive me if this is an obvious question that has been asked many times. I am in Ontario, Canada, please tell me the implications of not using a VPN. I do have a vpn service for one of the computers that I use and I could easily setup the router to protect the network, but that would affect the location for just general internet use. Thanks in advance.

VPN is kinda like a condom. Generally safer with it, but not as nice. If you have lots of speed, you should be able to stream fine with VPN on. If you lose too much speed, you will not have decent playback. I haven’t seen Canadian providers meddle to the point of throttling our connections (yet). In some parts of the world they do, and VPN is necessary to have any playback at all.

I am in a very similar location and don't use a VPN. The implications is that everything is faster, most VPN's don't give you the full internet speed you are paying for, you would need pretty robust IT setup to tunnel specific traffic through the VPN if you insist on using it.

Iptv is like streaming Netflix. I never used VPN like others have said can give you more buffering. Also, I tend to watch via Android Box and those VPN apps are unreliable. Canada considers streaming / downloading ok but torrenting requires uploading as well so put your VPN on. Uploading could mean sharing and selling for a profit so thats the sticky issue. I used to Torrent but too old now.

if VPN works fine for you with the service, then go ahead. Just an extra layer of security, so nothing wrong with using it. vpn has never never worked for me when using it for streaming, so I don't use it. I am not worried about it, but I might be if I was in UK, seems more strict in europe

I've had to connect IPTV to my VPN in the US when I had Xplornet. My router has a graph in it for real time usage and I could see if was a hard cap at 2 Mpbs while watching my buffering IPTV service. Turn the VPN on my firestick and the stream went to 8 Mbps. It probably would have worked if it was a Canadian VPN but I was happy to be watching the game and left good enough alone :)

It's always good to have one as a backup. I don't run with one now for IPTV but I do have my VPN setup to use certain US apps I've sideloaded on my firestick so it's not like its useless.

VPN it's more about unblocking channels rather than using it for the sake of VPN...

I also live in Ontario Canada and I have not been using a VPN. I have had the same provider for 3 years now with no complaints from Rogers. Yes a VPN will hide what you are doing but it also slows down your connection, and could cause buffering.
In the end its up to you but I have not had any problems.
