Fire device or formuler

by jcc-ccj

Looking to venture into the world of IPTV for the first time. Got one of the first gen Firesticks which is now so slow it’s all but useless!

There’s currently a sale on Amazon UK for both the 4K Firestick (£30) and the Firecube (£70).

Bit torn between either of the devices, or wether I move away from Amazon and go with a formuler box of some sort.

My IPTV use will pretty much be used for sports 95% of the time, so with that in mind don’t know if the firestick will just be perfectly fine, or wether I’d be better off spending a bit more?

I would go with Formuler Z8 if budget allows if not look for Formuler Neo, budget friendly cut down on spec but still has good spec for streaming inc MyTVOnline 2 app. You can record on usb pen with Formuler as well

Formuler any day of the week. Their My TV online 2 app is great. As well as having a proper TV remote.

I would personally stay away from formuler. I’ve had them and went back. I have a shield, however I run a 4k fire stick in the bedroom. Buying a formuler device, you are paying for the app and a device with the same specs and no app is more than half the price.

Personally I would say go for the 4K firestick, fire cube if you can afford it, shield if you want to go all out (second hand shield would work) mine is 2017. Then go with either IMPlayer or Tivimate. I have lifetime subs to both. Each costing approx $20 each for multiple device lifetime access.

Other things to consider, if you buy a OTG cable and hard drive/ thumb drive you can record on either tivi or IM. (Also formuler). But last time i looked the other apps for Formuler are a waste of time. Even Netflix isn’t HD via them. Maybe not what you are looking for but no future proofing with them.

Yes maybe a good plug and play device but personally after having a Z7 a few years ago I would think long and hard before making that purchase.

I picked up a Z8 when they first came out and I returned it within a couple weeks. I really like MyTV2, but the unit felt like it was stuck in mud. everything was so slow. The price being so close to the shields that were being announced made it a no brainer to return it. I am in the US. I could see some of the UK broadcast TV integration may be something that could be more use to a UK consumer.

The new formuler pro has widevine L1 and does now in fact run prime and Netflix in HD or better. It has the best remote and most flexible app available being able to connect to Mac based, m3u or xc api servers. The only justification for a shield is gaming. A 4k firestick running implayer with a solid xc based server would be the cheaper alternative I'd recommend.

For Iptv go with the formuler Z8 won’t be disappointed.

If you need the box for other apps I’d go with the shield.

I have a z7, a z8, firestick 4k, tivo stream 4k and the latest two shieldtvs. I would skip the formulers and go either firetv stick or google tv by android. Google tv will be best because you'll have the full play store and updates for a while. Shield is the way if you have $200.

Formulers have the nice remote but the software is dated and limited because it's android instead of full androidtv.

Personally I've not had good luck with the cheap Chinese crap with the Amazon badge. 4 firesticks in 3 years have all had catastrophic failures that I couldn't fix. One literally melted something inside and was dripping onto my TV stand. I haven't heard a bad thing about the formuler from anyone I know that's currently running it. The proprietary app is as close to a cable box as there is. The firestick to me is a very basic entry level, light use device. If you are going to used it all day every day like I did I do not recommend it. I stream 10+ hours a day. Also I don't like having to buy add-ons to hardwire it to the internet. Personally I run a jetstream 4k and a Nvidia shield.

I use the 4k firestick and have zero issues with tivimate. Everything runs well and it is compact and portable. Usb power from the tv easy peasy. Loads way faster than my x96 box and the alexa integration is great. For those of you who say formuler or another box what am i missing?

This shouldn’t even be a question! Fire sticks are garbage compared to formuler my tv online is identical to real cable and it actually runs smooth, fire stick doesn’t

my friend put me on to this stuff in recent days.

he is running IPTV Smarters on 4k Firestick. Model # (E9L29Y) .

he has all imaginable sports channels on the Firestick (which requires less set up) - but note that it requires Usb 5V power.

edit- not sure how the actual M3U or whatever is managed, he’s on an annual deal with a reseller.

Get the new Chromecast with Google TV.

Reap-ER

Neither, the fire devices are underpowered and the Z8 is buggy as shit. Go with the Shield Tube.

What about the fire cube 4K. Benchmark on that has it right up next to shield pro

Hardtonicc

Fire tv has a bunch of adds and suggested movies but u could try to ignore all of that and stick to the iptv app. Apple TV is my favourite

BeerVato

Tivo 4K or chromecast with google tv and get im player
