"IP lock providers" and using a VPN

by brream

I'm based in the UK, hence have to run a VPN . I use Nord vpn android. I signed up with a provider based in a part of Europe where VPNs are not so much of a necessity . After few days of problems connecting, I found out that my IP address should be locked, so we came to a compromise, whereby as long as my VPN connected to a UK server I would be OK. After a few days i ran into the very same problem. .I was connected to my nearest and fastest UK server using Nord (+ wireguard) but on their system i was flagged as having a French IP address !!

Is there some strange routing or mechanism within VPNs that can leak an unexpected IP address ?

Not sure if it's relevant, but I use NordVPN to watch football - the windows app didn't work but the mobile one did. It turned out that the windows app had a feature called "obfuscated servers" enabled, which from my providers point of view presented me as multiple connections on my account, rather than one fixed IP of the VPN.

Yep. I use TorGuard and see the same myself. For example, in the past when I have selected a server in Dublin, Ireland, the IP that it assigns me appears to be in Romania. I cannot explain this either. It's the routing the VPN provider is using, that's all I know for sure.

If you really need an answer, I'd advise you to open a ticket with your VPN provider and ask them why it is behaving like this. All you need is the IP you're connecting to, and run a location check on it using something like ip-lookup.org. It should show the true location of the IP, in your case France, when you've requested a connection to Britain, and have appeared to connect to Britain.

Make sure you check to see if your DNS is leaking. You may need to use a DNS provided by your VPN provider. ALSO you may need to make sure that IPv6 is disabled. Both of these things could be leaking your location.

It's not entirely clear from your description what the problem is, I assume it's with your provider and them seeing connections from multiple IP addresses, therefore blocking you?

I use IpVanish and never experience such problems.

P.S. Not all IPTV providers get blocked in the UK around premium EFL matches even with an ISP like Virgin, Sky. It depends on the service one is using. I only use my VPN to access Tubi and Filmrise apps using US servers.

why do you need a VPN ? are there any cases of people getting arrested for using iptv in the UK ?
