Using IPTV on Android Smart TVs

by left_nut

I’m currently using Tivimate on firestick with my severely outdated plasma TV.

I’m thinking about upgrading my TV with an android OS because when it comes to IPTV, Rokus are useless and Fire TV is filled with bloatware.

So does anyone have experience with using IPTV (specifically Tivimate) with just the base android OS? I know getting a Nvidia Shield would be the way to go but if I could save a couple bucks by just using the OS on the tv that would be a way to go.

I prefer shieldtv running tivimate as well as a Sony 4k that runs Android TV. Really hard to go wrong with any Android TV option these days.

I have tivimate running on the new Chromecast and have absolutely zero issues at all. Runs flawlessly!

ROKUS are definitely useless! Plus you need a credit card registered with them to be able to even use their TVs now!

Get a simple and cheap tv with good specs without useless and buggy build in OS. Buy external android tv box or stick for 40-50 bucks

i have shield and tivimate runs flawless on it and my parents have a sony tv built in android tv and tivimate runs flawless as well. My understanding is as long as it run's Android TV os, you should be fine

I have a Sony Bravia 4k Android OS 8 TV 75X7800F. Almost all apps run without any issues. For any apps not available on the google playstore for TV, I use the ES file explorer and transfer it via LAN to the TV. Inbuilt storage is 8GB and I had added a 32 GB USB flash drive for additional storage and have moved some apps on that and it works. More importantly, I can manage everything on a single device and remote. Hope this helps

Running a shield or Android box is no different then running something like tivimate on an android/google TV. Some side loaded apps might be a little glitchy bc they're not optimized for the tv, but tivimate should run perfectly fine

You could get a lower cost streaming device with the Android TV OS such as a Mibox or a Tivo Stream 4K or a $30 Dynalink sold at Walmart.

Some Sony and TCL tvs have actual Android running with the play store. Most do not. Samsung has bullshit apps only.

I have a TCL TV with Android TV built in. Tivimate runs great on the TV. I do notice that it is a little slower starting then my Android TV but I have no buffering or button lag after the app loads.

pmascarenas

i would go the shield route, the android tv does not have the horsepower to run apps at their full potential.

FireTV1

Run a regular smart tv. Add the Amazon Cube on sale for $79 now and makes it even SMARTER. another great buy right now is the Dynalink Android TV from Walmart fo $30 works wonderful and so is price. Side load via Downloader and FileLinked.

I have Xiaomi Mi 4S TV with Android TV. Tested a couple of apps but ended up with Tivimate. Works just great. It's a bit more expensive than Smart IPTV app but a lot better. Smart IPTV is more simple and I experienced a lot of buffering problems. I thought it was internet provider problem but when I switched to Tivimate all problems has disappeared. So I can really recommend this app.

I use STB Emu on a Nvidia Shield 2019 and i can say that it is a much better experience than the MAG and TVIP boxes.

Yea not saying you shouldnt upgrade your tv at some point but if you are trying to save a few bucks instead of buying a android tv just get you a shield , i literally only buy android os tvs now just because of this and have a samsung curve and have my shield hooked up to that because samsung is tizon os , and i dont like it so ....

Using implayer on my Sony Android TV....runs excellent

My friend had a Sony android TV. He sent it back to the shop the android part was very slow . you are better off buying a normal TV and buying a Amazon 4k fire stick or android TV box with least 2gb of ram and 16GM of memory.

Thanks

I'm running Tivi mate on a Sony android TV and on a Google chrome android TV device! Works great there as well. I do prefer the google chrome solution due to updates. My tv only got google TV 9.0. and to be honest it's probably the last update. Good luck!

I went for the shield tube tv running implayer. Hooked up to my network for downloading movies, catchup and recordings all playing anywhere with my plex.

I have a mecool km9pro and a mecool km8. Both are great value for iptv and viewing my plex. All running on wifi with only very occasional buffering.

Here in the uk a VPN is a must, the ISP's block sporting events regularly. My goto fav is the sheild, great quality.

Good luck with your setup👍

I use tivimate on Sony bravia with zero issues
