Can I use my Sony Bravia for IPTV or do I still need a box?

by struab1

Ive ordered my new tv so I don’t know exactly what apps are there yet. I know Sony has Android TV but I wasn’t sure if there are still limits to this when it comes to IPTV. I’m also worried about an IPTV app potentially messing up a very expensive TV if it gets a virus. Is it still worth it to get a box or can my Smart TV do everything the box can now ? Thanks.

Just bought an Android TV to do exactly this. Really depends on the specs. Mine has quad cores and 2.5gb of ram, it runs TiViMate better than my 2nd gen fire TV did. More seamless too running everything from the TV itself.

Yes, it has a Play Store for you to download apps including iptv. If me, I'd still buy a separate device. I believe in not putting all your eggs in one basket

I have a new Sony Bravia X95H and its a beast. Runs any streaming app, including Tivimate very well.

Put tivimate on your bravia

I have a Sony as well with Android TV and it's slow as shit. Get a Firestick

I have both firestick and tivimate installed on my Bravia TV. The one on TV is much better, maybe better to also have a VPN to bypass geoblocking, I have nordvpn running inside a small router I use just for the TV. 😉

I have a 3 year old sony bravia 4k tv and it works flawlessly with apps for iptv.

It shouldn't be a problem to sideload apps to an android based smart tv like Sony. Make sure you download from a trusted source.
VirusTotal is a good app for scanning apps installed on android devices.

Get XEEV and load your stream into that. I think the app works great in my XF9005
