M3U vs STB?

by sky82

Can’t find to much info so I though I would post

What is the pros and cons of either over each? I can’t find much STB players or maybe it’s me. Eg iptv streamers seems to only do m3u

My provider has streams I like and one is m3u and one is stb. Just debating which one to go with

Thanks for the info in advance

Usually most stb services carry English and Foreign content and also have Catchup, Epg and VOD to go along with it but only allow 1 connection per service. Some of the m3u services do carry Vod and catchup. Your less apt to find a guide for foreign languages on a m3u service but you can usually have more than 1 connection so you could share the costs. Stb services are used a lot for India content. Pros and cons both ways. . Its a personnel preference.

I prefer to use the Xtream Code 2.0 API, its faster loading both with playlists and epg data. Thereby the m3u/m8u puts all the loaded streams as 1 big list together and will only be subdivided into same groups with same names as the Bouquets from your provider.

For Xtream Code and Stalker Portal (Stb) there is more then onky LiveTV, VOD Movies & VOD Series. It comes a fuction named Catch-up TV and not all but some clients/players will also filter Radio Channels as a different categorie from it.

Only the big difference between Xteam Code en Stalker Portal is the identification verification. XtreamCode uses the same username and password that is used in the m3u/m8u url. And Stalker Portal, or any other portal uses the MAC-ADDRESS to indentify its selfs to the iptv server.

The other difference between these 2 is in modifying the groups. For m3u/m8u you havd possibility to change between channels en groups like you want. For XC/stb its only possible to deactivate/activate a stream, not moving around to other groups.

I hope that in a correct way explained the things above here. If not, please correct me.

Ask yourself this: are you ok with what you have?, if yes, why look for something else and not know if it will go well or not. If not going well, do your own research because what can work for me might not work for you, there are a ton of variables...Basically: don’t fix whats not broken...
