Formuler advice?

by tinpanalleypics

I'm looking at the Z alpha and the Z+neo. I'll be using this for my iptv service. I'll be using Ethernet, I do no VOD or streaming services like Netflix whatsoever, I'd love to be able to access my SMB shares from my home network of video and music if possible. I'd also like to be able to record from the iptv service and I prefer the menu system to not be sluggish because I've noticed over time that the biggest annoyance with iptv devices is the sluggishness of the actual OS and buffering or delays. That being said I'm currently on a mag254 so ANYthing will be faster.

Thanks!

You can try or the CCwGTV or a Mi Stick/Box(S), that are the best choices for a low price, or if you want some power for games and also can work as a plex server then a Shield TV (2019) (a bit pricey) is a good option

The Zalpha has 5g wifi and bluetooth the z+ neo has 2.4ghz and no bluetooth. The Chip and ram is the same in both so is the software so you decide if 5ghz wifi and bt is worth it. You can map nas drives on both and record to mapped nas drives. They just exposed the mapped nas shares globally to all apps a few updates go. The box is very snappy for live tv and recording. It might chug a bit more than the z8 with more ram in some 3rd party apps but if its just going to play media off shares or iptv either model will suit you just fine.

I would consider the Z8 Pro as well if you are going for a wired ethernet solution. The reason I suggest the box is the high bandwidth for 4k streaming or maybe VOD in the future. The alpha and the other box only have 100mbps connections via ethernet. The Z8 has 1Gbits

The new formuler GTV is based on Android, so not only is it great for IPTV it is really fast for anything else you want to use it for.

If you are using Ethernet connection, I will also vote for Z8 Pro since it has gigabit LAN. No sluggish, no buffering.

What is the best device for multistream recording? I have the z8 and it's good for single stream but even with a service and extra login I can't seem to get a solution where I can record one chann and watch another. This is the only thing keeping me from finally cutting the cord, really eager to figure it out. I see peoe like tviola (sp) but apparently that won't run on formular devices. Am I mistaken? If that's a good option what hw is best to run it on?
