Nvidia Shield TV: Should I try it or keep the older box(es)

by Abdel403

Here is my current situation: I have 2 TVs (Samsung and LG), each with its IPTV subscription (not the greatest but it's ok) and each TV has its own box ( MAG254 + mi-box). I'm trying to see if the box choice might help improve the experience a bit, thought I think the performance of the channels is very related to the subscriptions quality themselves,

So, I bought a used Nvidia Model: P2897. I understand that it's ranked high compared to other boxes. I do not have a remote for it though. I'm thinking to replace the MAG254 to see if there is a difference.

1- What do I need to do to install the Nvidia, should I first touch base with the IPTV seller to let him know that I'm a replacing the box, so he can give me some indications or some links?

2- Anyone has a link to a video that shows how to install the Nvidia box? I have no clue where to start!

3- If I buy a used Nvidia remote, will it be compatible with the box, do I need somehow to program it to make it work?

Thanks.

PS: please note that I'm not expert in all this hard/software TV world, just trying to read and learn and get the optimal solution to watch foreign TV channels from time to time ...

Update: I ended up buying an original Nvidia remote (second hand), used a mouse/USB dongle to get to the pairing menu, paired the remote and was able to use the box normally with the remote. Next, I will have to compare the performance of the shield/Mag/mi-box.

I would recommend you install tivimate and ask your supplier if he can give you an xtreme codes login or an m3u link.

I can help you configure tivimate if you get stuck.

If your using a mag box. You should be able to download stb emulator onto the shield which is a Mag box emulator, from apkcure/aptoide or any similar Google alternative. Your can change the MAC address in stb emulator to corrosponde with the one on your Mag box, you may have to change the serial number in stb emulator to also match the mag box. Job done. As a lot of providers have to enable a sub for a mag which can't usually be changed for a sub on smarters or xciptv.

You can use Android TV remote App for now till you buy a new remote. Also for your IPTV all you need is r/Tivimate app available in Play Store.

Install tivimate but use external players like plex, kodi, or vlc. I had firestick and was having really bad experience with iptv until I bought nvidia shield pro and used those players, now I don't get any buffering what so ever and video quality is hd always.

Cant speak for the shield but iv got a formuler z8 pro and it runs amazing, good bit cheaper than the shield too

I loved my Shield TV so much I bought a second one.

Absolutely perfect box for streaming whatever you want.

If you buy a £10 USB keyboard and mouse that has a little USB dongle to plug into the shield. It will help loads. Homebargains if in UK or BnM

Just downloaded the Google remote app from google and your phone is the remote (nvidia has an app for phones also) it uses either wifi or bluetooth which ever is your preference

Elf-Lord

For your Nvidia Shield without remote, buy a 2019 Nvidia Shield remote, and use that.

The mibox remote should work with the shield. But I'd recommend getting the actual shield remote itself.

Cant you transfer your existing iptv service to the shield? Ask your seller.

Setting up the shield is very easy, just like a phone.

Depends on your IPTV service, but I'm using STBEMu Pro which emulates a MAG254). I have a Shield TV and I also have a logitech remote hub. There are a few buttons you'll need to emulate for the STBEMU to match specific buttons (Red, Green, blue). You can youtube all of these videos though.

Just download iptv url directly onto smart tv , new ones available daily, one stops working just load another .

OutrageousAbility800

Surely nowadays no need for boxes, just download iptv onto smart tv job done.
