Thinking of upgrading

by TheBird_OD

Currently rocking the Firestick 4K but always on the hunt for the best experience.

I’ve seen the reports of Nvidia supposedly stopping production of the Tegra chips that power the Switch and the Shield, so possibly a new Shield on the horizon?

If not, can anyone who’s upgraded from the FS4K to either the Chromecast with Google TV or the Shield (Tube or Pro), say it’s a tangible upgrade? Worth the price? AI upscaling on the Shield worth it for IPTV?

Thanks!

Unless you’re going to do some gaming it’s really not worth upgrading to a Nvidia shield… I have both a 4K firestick and a Nvidia shield TV Pro and my 4K firestick works just as good as my Nvidia shield with my IPTV Service… you can also improve the performance of your 4k Firestick by downloading the TechdoctorUK Debloat toolbox, this will remove the Amazon bloatware which will make your 4k stick run faster & smoother…

I highly recommend the Google Chromecast w/ android TV since swapping from Firesticks at my moms, brother, and mine homes over to these it's been a nice frustration free experience. Plus the play store keeps my apps including my vpn up to date.

in terms of IPTV there is no difference if you have a decent provider. I have all 3 set up and use them all in different rooms and can't tell the difference.

I’d recommend waiting a few months. Google is starting to require new android tv boxes to support decoding of the new AV1 format (similar to hevc) I was going to get the Shield TV Pro but gonna wait out till the fall for the new one

The nvidia is superb but a little overpriced. I suggest getting the firecube or if you want a more powerful stick. The Tivo Stream 4K

4k firestick and shield are pretty much the same for iptv.

4k Firestick has more than enough capability for iptv. If you're having issues, it's either a connection issue or a provider issue.
