Smart TV app (LG) vs Apple TV vs Windows app vs VLC vs KODI

by YaYaTurre

I am signing up for my first IPTV service and would like to know the best place to install it based on the options listed above. I will be using the service primarily for watching live sports.

What do you think?

Thanks so much!

Use the Tivimate app, On an android device like Nvidia shield tv pro, 4k firestick, or Chromecast with Google TV…

To be honest while all of your listed options will work, none will give you the "best" experience. For the best experience you need an android TV device and tivimate app. The best Android TV device is the Nvidia Shield but it is a bit expensive. The seconds best is the new google chromecast with google tv and it's only $50.

The items you listed are either underpowered (TV) and/or are limited in what apps can be used (Apple TV). VLC has no guide and kodi interface is lackluster and limited.

Just try them and see which one you like best qua performance and ease of use. If you run it through NextPVR before playing it on any of the mentioned clients/devices, you can also record/pause

Tivimate with an Android streaming device. Looks like a cable guide. Cube or Shield work very well.

I would check where you can run your VPN from first, couldn’t find Nord on Apple or Samsung. Ο.Σ.Φ.Π. 😉

thanks everyone for the comments! I didn't really realize how easy it was to set up, so I am playing with it on several devices. I did buy iPlay for the Apple TV, and it works well.

If people are still following this thread, would you mind answering a couple of other questions:

  1. Should I turn 'hardware acceleration' on?'
  2. If I get some buffering, is that more likely the app or the IPTV service?

Thanks again!

Snappy IPTV - it’s a paid app but worth it. It will sync your settings, IPTV accounts, recently watched, etc via iCloud between AppleTV, iPhone, iPad.

Try smart STB on Samsung/LG. It's easy to use and intuitive while being controlled from your TV remote.
