Is Shield too much for just Youtube/IPTV?

by FailedPreMedStudent

Should I get just a Firestick 4k if I only want to use the device for IPTV and youtube?

Yes and a Firestick 4k is ideal for YouTube and IPTV (I have one myself)

I was looking at the Shield but can't justify the $200 price tag. I tried a Tivi Stream for $50 when they first came out with them, but have been underwhelmed. I have 4 Firestick 4K in my house and it works great for IPTV and Youtube. No problems at all. It also ties in, natively, to my Amazon Prime catalog and I've sideloaded a few apps for VOD. Perfect device for all of that. The 4K Firestick is often on sale for under $30 on Amazon, right now it is $37.99 on there. The Firestick Lite would also work well for those needs, and it is priced at $24.99, but it does not come with volume buttons and also does not have a power button. If you are going with Firestick I would go with the 4K and the volume/power buttons so you only need 1 remote to turn on the TV, to raise and lower volume, and to operate IPTV, Youtube, and the like.

If you can afford it. Do it Thats all I use it for. I also have 2 Mi Box's and they work well too.

You wont regret going Shield, the other you might so why bother? I have a Formuler Z8 and some high 4K videos Buffer.. I have direct connection 1gig net so i say its the hardware. Why chance it? The shield isnt breaking the bank

I wouldn’t get a Firestick 4K. I have one and a Shield Pro. The problem with the Firestick is that it comes preloaded with too many apps that you don’t need and you can’t delete them (at least not without a lot of headache and effort). As a result, you don’t have enough space and it fills quickly. The Shield is more expensive, but you can do more with it, even if you think you don’t need all those options right now.

I bought one about two years ago, it's now an expensive paperweight. I used it more for streaming which it did a good job doing, but it does not last long enough to justify the price.

Firestick has more apps then Shield but all of the mainstream ones are on both devices. I own both and i prefer the Shield instead because it has direct ethernet connection. Plus, i was able to stream PC Games to the SHIELD so that was pretty amazing feature. if you are on a budget, grab the firestick instead. you just need to learn how to sideload apps if you are planning to do a little piracy stuff (dont ask about that here)
