Internet Hardwired in Different Room

by Lobbandy

Hi all,

My internet is hard wired in the bedroom, and the tv I'm using my android box with is in my living room. I don't want to run a cable through the living room to get hardwired connection to the internet. Do you recommend powerline adapters or hdmi wireless adapters? Anyone have any ideas?

If there is COAX in your living room and your bedroom, look in to MOCA adapters. I am running one now and it works really well. Great speeds.

Before that I was using Powerline Adapters. They worked but once in a while the speeds would be too slow and I'd have issues. Powerline Adapters will really depend on the wiring in the house so YMMV.

I'd first try 802.11ac if you havent yet, wireless has come a long way.

Get a powerline network adapter. It will use the electrical wire in your house. They plug into the AC outlet & use that to transmit the signal. You will lose some performance but it works well. In a setup at my house, I run from downstairs to upstairs where wifi is a bit sketchy. I get about 85-90 mbit/s on the link which isn't bad considering the powerline kit I purchased is only 100 mbit/s. On wifi, I was barely getting 20 mbit/s.

I have used what is called a bridge the one I have can be used to provide a Lan connection to a device such as a BD player that requires a hard wired connection must have a computer to set up the WiFi connection or it can be used a repeater for extended wifi coverage good luck they aren't overly expensive I got mine on Amazon and it works great!

Just get a tplink wifi repeater they have an rj45 jack on the bottom.. but you could try one of the tplink EoP adapters they are cheap enough too

Do you have another coax/fiber outlet in the living room? If so, I'd just get a second router.
