Recording in Tivimate

by Fingerblaster007

I have tivimate premium hooked up to my Sony x900h and id like to record shows on tivimate. I know I can get another box but I don’t really want or need another box cause I like how it works on my tv, plus I don’t want another remote. Any suggestions on how i can hook up something to record shows? And if i can hook something up, does it have a dvr looking format?

You can use a USB drive. This thread from last year explains how:

You could also record to SMB, but for that you would need a computer to be on and send it to the computer's storage.

You didn't say what device you have so we can't really give you much help.

I find tivimate works well for DVR functions, I just hit the red record button on my harmony remote at any time to record. I do have external hard drive connected to my shield.

Saved recordings can all be found from the main menu on the left side, just like any other vod/movies etc

I have two Sony Android TV's, this is not possible, at least in the US. I've read that the firmware in other countries may allow USB to be used as a storage device. I use a 4k fire stick for recording.

I would suggest attaching a nas device to your router. You can pick up a cheap Buffalo 2 Tb for around $120 then you can record to it and see all your recordings on all your devices. Just food for thought.

Yes. Just need to direct in recording settings to nas device. Then you can access all your recordings from all your devices once it records. Your to be recorded list will only show up on the device you used to program the recording.

Yes. In your TiviMate. Go to recordings then settings. You can chose where to save your recordings.

I just found a way to record and it works! I have an Asus router with Usb ports(AaC68U.)

I set up a 128gb flash drive as a NAS drive and told Tivimate on my Sony Tv to record to it. So easy I can't believe I didn't know this before.

Edit: Just saw someone mentioned NAS up above. I tried the cheap route with a USB stick I already had to test it. May upgrade later but I don't record much since you can pretty much stream anything these days.

Not sure if/how this would work if the TV is off though?(Just set a recording for 5 minutes. Turned off the TV, and checked later and it Did record.)

You should be able to connect a USB flash memory to your TV and tivimate should see it as a storage device. You need to try it to be sure.

Just connect a USB flash drive and go to your tivimate settings and set it as recording destination. And then test a channel and see if it records.

Know that USB flash memroy has limited lifespan of writes.

Also you should know that Tivimate does not do a good job of recording. The recordings get cut a lot. Everytime there is hiccup in the stream the recording stops. So its not a very good system.

A more robust system is a formuler box, but can record only 1 channel at a time.

Enigma boxes can record 2 or 3 simultaniously. and robustly.

Also understand your connection limitations. Each recording uses a connection.

Also know that the proccessor and ram of your smart tv is rather weak. This might cause problems. But only way to know is to actually use and see in practice if its good enough.
