PayPal Risky For Paying For IPTV?

by [deleted]

My IPTV provider is going to accept Bitcoin only soon for payment. Is paying for an IPTV service through PayPal really unsafe? I’m not comfortable with setting up an entirely separate payment system just to make a $10 payment each month. It’s a good service, I’ve had it for about a year and a half, but there are thousands out there to choose from.

What do you guys think?

I wouldn't use PayPal. I use services that take CCs. My account with them is a fictitious name and address. I buy a $200 Visa gift card at the store with cash. I register that gift card using the same fictitious address. I use that for paying for my services.

These iptv services need to start accepting monero. It is the only private, fungible cryptocurrency there is. The dark web is leading the way and making monero the preferred payment option. These iptv sellers need to get on board.

If the feds can track down crypto payments to ransomeware attackers like they did with the Colonial Pipeline attack they can track them from/to anyone so I don’t think that’s the answer. I like the idea of a prepaid Visa card.

Got burnt by it over here in Germany. Bought IPTV package with Paypal thinking this dude and the servers must be in a third world country. Nope, dude and the servers were inside his place, he got caught and everyone on that paymentlist got sued by SkyTV. Not Fun.

Ended up paying ~1000€ for 30€ 3 month package.

Providers and resellers who use PayPal may need to read this: https://torrentfreak.com/man-sentenced-to-12-months-prison-for-copyright-infringement-tax-evasion-210712/ PayPal isn’t safe to use if you are selling iptv. As a consumer, you should be wary of any institution that would turn over any records of payment to the feds, like PayPal did without a warrant. Resellers and providers are often looking for new ways to accept payment and more will be looking at crypto as their main way to facilitate payments.

Its not that it's risky for getting out in jail or something, it's risky because PayPal will close the account and possibly every account associated with the provider. They then lock the money for 6 months anc most of the time the customer gets notified and then files a claim for a refund.

I have lost 5 PayPal accounts with thousands held for months. I literally can't even sign up for another PayPal account. The same happened with my Stripe account after 6 months. I don't use Bitcoin because of the tax requirements and how hard it is for people to sign up and send payments. I personally use Cash App, Venmo, or Amazon Gift cards from customers in other countries. I lost a lot of customers not having a payment merchant, the loyal customers I have now say they will never leave and they haven't through all of the problems we have faced. If they are in the US, I would ask about Cash App or Venmo though. They are easy to setup and no fees for sending or receiving money.

Mine is doing the same thing....it's less about how "secure" it is, but about how people can't follow simple instructions and make it more risky for the provider to do business.

If the provider asks you to only put your username in the comment box, so they know where to apply the payment, an half the people are putting "for IPTV service" or "for IPTV on ProviderName" that puts more risk on the provider.

Bottom line, it's a self preservation measure against people who don't follow the instructions and are going to kill a good thing for everyone because they can't be bothered to read.

As a subscriber, whether using PayPal is safe or not depends largely on where you live. In some jurisdictions it’s illegal to purchase illegal streaming services. In some it’s not. In Canada for example it’s not illegal for me but subscribe to a service. It’s only illegal to operate such a service. So in my case using PayPal is perfectly safe. If my providers records are seized and the authorities find out I was a subscriber, there is nothing they can do to me. Most providers will indicate on the invoice that the charge is for something like “web hosting” or “cloud service” anyway.

Bitcoin is aa easy as PayPal. Follow your providers instructions..

A couple months ago I set up a Coinbase account for exactly this purpose. It was a total mess. Coinbase as a company is a mess. They hold on to your funds for weeks at a time, transfers of any kind are extremely slow and customer service is a joke. So my foray into Bitcoin ended in less than a month. I’m on a very limited income. Thus the use of less expensive services wherever possible. I can’t afford to have my money held up anywhere.

If service is legitimate they will accept credit cards. It's very telling that most IPTV services use some sort of round about payment methods. They are trying to keep from getting caught running an illegal unlicensed service.

Crypto is easy peasy. Of course it's not bulletproof, but do you think that they are going to waste their time taking down individual users? I think not. It's the sellers that have to worry.

Not a big worry IMO. There are still plenty out there that accepts payments other than bitcoin. I was in the same position as you. I don't deal with btc in anything else so found it was kind of a hassle. If you really don't like the payment option, just look for another service that suits you.
