Is there a way to block IPTV on my home network?

by HazzaFTW28

Very much a noob when it comes to this as I do t use it.

I have no problem with the service it’s self but I have a family member who uses it and I set them up with a VPN but sometimes they turn it off and forget to not turn it back on and I can’t keep having to check for them.

I have many options to block things on my network. I don’t know how the service works but is it possible to block and address?

Thanks in advance.

Why don't you set up the vpn to autostart, autoconnect and kill the internet connection if not connected to a server?

Block the IPTV URL/port that they provide you on the local network (firewall/router/whatever you have), that way it will only work when the vpn is active.

If you run a PiHole or other ad blocker, you could also block the dns name.

You need to expand more on what options you have locally to block things in order to get a good answer

The VPN I use allows you to set what apps you want to use the VPN with or the ones you don’t. Pretty simple and easy to set up

Ask the person what IPTV service they use because you're considering signing up yourself. Once they tell you what provider they use, use Google to search that provider's name and "m3u" together in your search. You'll find others who've posted examples of the m3u address which would be the domain that you would need to type into your router. Then all you need to do is log into your router look under parental controls or perhaps filter websites or block domains. And then you just type in that address and it will be blocked.

You're better off having a conversation with the person however, explaining that you don't want the ISP to block you or the government to be able to track you down because whoever's name on the bill is the one responsible. Ask them to use a VPN in order to access their IPTV. There are VPN routers available that they can purchase so that all of their traffic goes through the VPN not just IPTV. This is your best option and then you don't need to worry, and they don't either.
