Iptv recording

by Kykykz

Hi, new to IPTV and trying to get my parents to ditch Sky. Found a provider we're happy to go with but recording is important to my parents. Is it possible to buy a 'cheap' Android box (around €60) and put an external HDD into one of the USB ports and just record to that? I

You are asking the wrong question. The question is what iptv software do you plan on using. They all pretty much suck when it comes to recording. Tivimate has some basic recording capabilities (record current program or record a program that is currently in the EPG) no automatic scheduled recordings etc. You have to manually schedule recording for each program you are interested in.

Basically IPTV is really not for the "set it and forget it" crowd. Channels have issues often and recording is flaky at best. You will have issues and if your parents are the type that don't like that, then IPTV is not for them. Be prepared to get a lot of calls from them.

Problems with IPTV are expected. You are paying very little to get a lot of programming from low budget setups.

Tivimate has basic DVR functionality to a local drive, but I personally use Xteve and my existing Plex Server.

IPTV isn’t for people who record things lmfao

I agree with what has been stated about recording on IPTV. My best success is with a hardwired 1Gb feed that goes to a USB 3.0 hub Ethernet adapter where I have a 500 Mb flash drive formatted to NTFS and programming through a Firestick and TiviMate. So yeah, there are hoops to jump through. I have more success than failures, but the longer the show, the more likely it is going to stop recording.

Can they use the Catch up function?

You can record with Emby, Plex, Jellyfin and others. But IPTV is usually not stable enough to record entire series. There are other services besides IPTV that they could pay for to get their recorded contant. My inlaw just picked up Disney & Discovery along with local channels on his antenna and he's happy. With all adjustments to new service it takes time. \

IPTV is best for live 'watch now' telly, if you want to 'record' get a a network drive and install Sonarr, Radarr and Plex.

I use Emby to watch and record IPTV, works great.

next pvr is the only one that works and is easy, but need a computer, then use vlc and cast

It’s not as bad as some are making out. Not as convenient as sky obviously, but I have an app and device that records perfectly well. I use Formuler Z8 box with USB drive and record function built into the app. Just have to set the times to record a certain channel rather than clicking a ‘program’.

Is Recording necessary or do the providers have "on demand" type functionality?

How do you guys find reliable iptv providers? Are not most of them just scam?

nemofbaby2014

I mean if you really need Iptv recording I'd just use plex + xteve

djrocco86

for the sake of your parents, they are best finding a provider that uploads what they need, some providers charge an extra connection for the ability to record

Quirky_Climate_9301

Most good iptv providers offer catchup so no need to worry about recording
