Can I install IPTV apps directly on a TV?

by adeelf

Sorry for the noob question. I know using an Android box or Fire Stick is widely advised, but I'm looking at buying a new TV, and was wondering if I can get IPTV to work on it without additional hardware? So if I buy a Toshiba Fire TV Edition, or something with Google/Android TV built in (like a Hisense) would that work? If so, can anyone point out how?

I currently already own a TCL Roku TV, but I'm guessing there is now way to get IPTV directly on it?

Yes you can, if you have a TV with Android tv or Google TV you can just sideload any IPTV app and use it directly on the TV. Be aware that a real box will always be better because the TV makers are cheap charlies that have put underpowered hardware in older android TVs, but new ones with Google TV have been okay in my experience. A Shield is still better because it can upscale to 4K, but other than that you are not missing out on anything.

I just got a Sony X80J. Using Tivimate and it's absolutely flawless.

Run it off your phone and mirror your screen...buy 1 shield for the main room and phones for the rest...android phones with Samsung tvs, this is what I use.

Amazon fire stick is good and easy to move from room to room

Formulier Z boxes are one of the best.

I tested many Adroid Tv boxes and I can suggest you :

Xiaomi Mi Box S with voice remote.

even if hardware is not one of the most powerfull, it's certified for netflix, prime video, and many other applications (that means that manufacturer company did the things good).

I used it myself with iptv and it's very good.

If you want to spent less and you do not need for netflix, primevideo, and other streaming platforms :
- any box with 4gb ram
- good amplified dual band wifi (if your router is not in the same room and you do not intend to use lan cable)
- cpu RK3318
- storage at least 16gb (if you want to install also some games or apps later)

My advice is to purchase also a bluetooth mini keyboard... I found it very usefull instead of "on screen keyboard"... but it's another question....

dont get smart tvs. I have a Toshiba Fire Tv. Works fine, but just get a firestick for your setups. It goes on sale every once in a while. Shield, mi box are other options ,but costs more. Firestick should be find for general usage.
