I'm very new to the world of FreeSat and IPTV having been a Sky customer for 15+ years. Can anyone help me better understand the hardware required to plug into my old Sky Q dish (I'm replacing the LNB with a hybrid 6-port) so that I can access both the FreeSat channels and also possibly explore IPTV on the same box?
I'm looking at the huge range of Vu+/Gigablue etc. and am totally confused. I'd like to be able to record to an internal HDD and (ideally) connect it to my Plex server laptop too but I understand that bit is more complicated so happy to put that on the backburner.
Can anyone help me understand this better? How many satellite inputs will be needed? Will I be able to add IPTV firmware to it etc.?
Again, apologies for the very amateur level questions but I'm hoping to learn and appreciate all help.
Then dump the device back to sky.
As u/SimbaStreams rightly said, I would recommend purchasing an Amazon Firestick 4K which will let you have a nice app and your VPN (needed where you are) for security and bypassing possible blocks in the same device which is small, portable and versatile.
For IPTV purposes, stay away from Enigma 2 boxes if you can. A 4K VU+ box, for instance, has more resource to coup with IPTV functionality but still it wont get near an MEcool android box or a firestick 4K.
