Figured out the cause of my buffering

by Zepanda66

If anyone is dealing with buffering themselves here's something you can try. Try changing your wifi from 5ghz to 2.4ghz and vice versa. There must be something nearby causing interference on the 5ghz band because as soon as I changed it to 2.4ghz the difference in performance was immediately noticeable. My streams don't go out of sync anymore. Audio isn't dropping out. I still get some very minor buffering but that's likely a problem at the source. At any rate it's better than before and content is actually watchable now. Amazing what kind of problems bad wifi can cause.

I figured out your actual problem just by reading your second sentence:
Wifi.

Try an app called Wifi Overview 360 to see what channels are busy in the area.

And run Analiti on the device while it's on each of 2.4Ghz/5Ghz to see the comparative speeds.

BigHeadWeb

I'm hardwired with gigabit speeds, and I'd love to watch just one movie without it buffering multiple times. Haven't found a service that can do it yet...

This is awesome!

I fixed something a few years ago by doing this. I think it was my streamer. And since I just rebuilt them, I don't know what they are set to now.

Thank you for the suggestion!

Just for your notes, 5 ghz is faster, but bouncier.

2.4 ghz is a bit slower, but more solid. It can get through some stuff that 5 ghz would have to go around.

I am a degreed Electrical Engineer, and that terminology is sufficiently accurate to convey what I am trying to get across. :D

i switch to 2.4 and also got better performance

Effective_Bit489

5G is for 10feet or closer to modem/router

2.4 for all other applications

It is used differently in different scenarios

  1. 5GHz works better when you're in open Spaces (with no obstacles between your wifi router and your device)
  2. When there is an obstacle between your wifi router and your device, switching to 2.4GHz is a good idea

But if you use IPTV a lot and your device is fixed, I strongly recommend that you skip wifi and use an Internet cable instead, as this is the complete solution to the buffering problem (if your IPTV service is good).

Glad you could sort out your issue. And you are correct, we do not understand how the internet works, but as soon as we have an eureka moment it becomes clearer that we have to be open to try the littlest of advices even if it seems illogical to us
