Any recommendations for an app for the less technically inclined?

Nvidia sheild pro. I'm new to all of this. I'm a techy but my wife isn't. We watch netflix, youtube, live tv, and downloaded files from a pc share. Kodi app for tv and local files. Netflix and youtube apps. We've been using a laptop up until now but got the sheild for live tv.

Navigating around all of this is a pain. Some apps let you input searches using a keyboard some don't. You've got to switch between apps in a way that is more complicated than using windows since ther isnt a "base os" that you return to when quitting any app.

Are there any simple apps that tie all of this stuff together so it is easier for a non techy to nanage. For instance if the last thing before turning off the sheild was kodi then it starts playing that file when you turn it on even when using netflix so there are 2 programs playing at the same time. Then i have to come fix things.

Probably not the best or techy answer but I have recommended a Formuler (with MyTVOnline2) to several people and all of them are happy with it.

It's simple enough for the masses.

Biggest letdown I found was that you have to connect an external drive for rewind/record functionality. It's also a bit picky so you need a drive that is booted up almost instantly (or keeps running) or you will encounter issues.
Would be amazing if you could add an NVME drive internally.

I always think that Smarters and/or XCIPTV are the best bets for simplicity

XCIPTV is normally good to go from install and doesn’t require any major tweaks to settings

Emby is super easy for the average user to use on a daily basis, but is not free for some of its best features. It does require a server or some sort that makes it all possible. It makes it so you can use iptv similar to traditional cable with a dvr as well as make libraries for your local content. It takes a bit to set up but is well worth it.

if you are a techy, u need to get Emby or Plex. I have a media server which I can access w/ the Emby app. I used to use Kodi to access my files, but I graduated from Kodi to Emby, seriously, get Emby or plex. Now if u truly want to get technical, Emby offers addons such as Xteve. Xteve allows you to sync IPTV feeds into your media server, so Now Emby can access your IPTV inside the Emby app. Xteve was too technical, even for me, way too much configuration options.

Otherwise, I use smartersTV and/or XCIptv. the wife just got used to it

You can try with Smart STB. With the right IPTV provider is as simple as it gets and you get both IPTV channels, movies, series and so on. The better providers out there have everything from every location and every big platform such as Netflix, Disney+, Hulu, Amazon, Apple and so on among with pretty much every broadcast TV and radio channel on the planet. But you'll need some digging around.

TiviMate for Live and VOD. With right services setup it rocks for both. I also use a Raspberry Pi as server for ‘whole home DVR’ experience. But, to be honest, no one in my family records tv shows anymore. It’s all on demand.

If she is so non techy and is unwilling to learn new things then why not just sub to cable?
