For my 80 year old grandmother who can't speak English, I desperately need help picking Firestick 4K vs Chromecast with Google TV

by HisHerbs

I don't use IPTV. I have a PC setup to my TV. So I haven't dived into this world.

But I have done some research, and I cant seem to come to a conclusion on this specific issue.

My grandmother doesn't speak Read/Speak English. She speaks Persian. I was going to get her a Persian IPTV subscription.

I can obviously teach her how to navigate and she can remember that. So I wanted to know which is easier to use? She can't be casting off a smartphone or anything crazy.

TL;DR. Firestick 4K or Chromecast with Google TV for simplicity and getting through channels.

Never set your parents up with new or unfamiliar tech unless you want to be doing tech support every day for the rest of your life. I know whereof I speak.

Firestick with the Wolf Launcher. Clean and simple. Got mine setup with 2 massive icons only... TiviMate and the VPN.

Though the Chromecast with Google TV is also I great product.

Tivimate will make it simple either should be fine on fire stick you would need to side load tivimate chrome cast you can download from Play store

My preference, especially for older people is Chromecast with Google TV. I find the new Fire launcher to be a bloated mess. The chromecast one isn't much better, but there is a nice apps only option that makes it clean and easy to use.

The service will probably have its own "apk" for access. Setup the favorites and leave it running 24/7. If she wants to turn the TV off, she can use the tv remote (but the fire stick or Google Chromecast stays on). There's even options usually inside where it will automatically load the app on restart. That's what I did for my grandparents, they love it. They have unlimited data on their plan and it only uses a few GB a month.

I've got a Samsung smart tv and put stdemu on it several years ago for my elderly man. The benfit its only one remote and its a familiar setup. The downfall if it get blocked by ISP I've had to buy a separate router and put a vpn on that.

Used the Google Tv with Remote for my 80y old mom, who is terrible with technology.

She understands that TIVIMATE is for tv and Netflix|Plex is for movies and tv shows.

Amazin was too bloated when I compared.

Works great the last 6 months.

4k for me. But the issue finding her language might be tough. My father in law figured it out but just gotta be there for the small bumps in the road
