1GB ram vs 2GB - does this impact Buffering/ Stream quality?

by ConorRowlandIE

I need to choose between a Formuler Z8 and a Formuler Z Alpha. The Alpha is significantly cheaper but only has 1GB ram.

Wondering how important RAM is for streaming quality? The box will only be used for streaming live TV / VOD, not gaming or anything like that. It is a Christmas present for my dad, so I want to make sure it won’t be glitchy.

Ram is one of the first things to suffer as a device gets old. I would pay a bit more for 2gb if possible. 1gb is incredibly low.

1GB should be fine as long as the OS isn't taking up too much. Up until recently the Amazon fire sticks only had 1GB and I used them on my basement TV for years without issue.

Ram does affect buffering/stream quality but not as much as your internet connection/speed.

Buy one with the most RAM and storage as possible. You will be glad you did when your still using the same box 5 or 6 years from now. Yes you can add storage to an Android box, but the OS takes up more space with the each up date. I still have a 2015 Shield Pro running like a new box. Can’t say the same for Fire devices or any other boxes and dongles I’ve used for bedroom TVs. I’ve never tried the Formular boxes, but the top end ones look nice. And would probably last you a long time. They also seem to support their products like Nvidia.

Get the Nvidia shield Pro, it's the best option.
