Nvidia Shield vs Formuler Z8 for IPTV only?

by jdixon1974

I'm looking for a box for IPTV only. I have my television set up for everything else (Netflix, Amazon Prime, Disney) so this will strictly be for watching IPTV channels and sports.

After doing hours and hours of research, I've narrowed it down to the Formuler Z8 or the Nvidia Studio (not sure if I need the pro or not).

Most posts I'm reading on this are over a year old.

Has anything changed lately?

If it's for IPTV only, is the Formuler Z8 still the best way to go (do I need the Pro version) or is the Nvidia still the best of the best?'

thanks

Just get a firestick and get tivimate premium...you'll be happy ....

Nvidia Shield for the 4k upscaling. If you don't need that you can get any device. I would recommend a Mi Box or stick.

Firestick. Using it for 2 years for IP TV which has every single TV show recorded and live. From every platform as well, i.e. netflix, prime, apple+, disney+, etc.

I will offer my personal experience as I only use these for IPTV. I have the following two Formuler devices, the Z8 pro and the CC. I also, for my lesser viewed TVs use Firesticks with Smarter app. I've tried Tivimate but for the extra cost to unlock premium, I wasn't interested in paying for something that was going to limit to a few devices.

The Formuler devices have 2TB hard drives attached for live TV record, pause, rewind, etc and scheduling recordings. The MyOnlineTV2 app is proprietary to Formuler and Dreamlink and is the best that I've used. The experience is much like that of using a cable or satellite service.

The CC is great if you can receive local OTA signals. It will scan and add those channels into the MOLTV2 app with epg to record as well.

The Z8pro in no longer in production AFAIK. The Z10 series has replaced it. Not a huge difference because they both use MOLTV2 just memory upgrades. That being said, if you can find a Z8 for a significant amount cheaper, it's worth grabbing because it's still a great box.

As I said, this is my personal experience from doing exactly what you're planning to do and I hope this helps.

I would not use the Z8 myself. I have one and never use it because it just isn't as user friendly as a 4K Firestick. The Shield is supposed to be great, but if all you want to do is stream IPTV then it's total overkill and a lot more expensive than a Firestick. The other option to consider is the TiVo Stream, which is about the same price and has similar functionality to the Firestick.

THanks to everyone for all of the replies. After reading various replies and some private messages, I ordered a Firestick 4K max today on Amazon. From what I've read, it should do what I want and is an inexpensive entry into the IPTV world. If things go well, I'll move that firestick to a different TV in the house and then look at getting more powerful boxes if required.

Thanks james

Either is good options, plus with Formuler Z8 or Z8 Pro is it comes loaded with MOL2 so you’re already set up. With Shield you’d have to download something like Tivimate and upgrade to premium which will add extra costs to an already expensive box and from what I understand there’s some steps to upgrade to the premium. If only looking for IPTV I’d lean towards Formuler Z8 or Z8 Pro. If looking for device with access to more apps I’d suggest Shield or GTV/Z10 Pro or Pro Max. Formuler does not have Netflix certification. Sometimes can sideload a 1080 Android TV version but recently the APK has not been working and there hasn’t been a fix yet.

I would do the shield. That way if you were are traveling, you can bring it with you and still have the rest of those streaming apps with you as well.

Where do I get the nvidia studio from? I have the shield could do with an upgrade…

MrKaon

Yes for IPTV only go for Formuler Z8 that is your best choice.

McGyver43

Hands down the best IPTV app comes only with Formuler. MyTvOnLine2 is the best app for iptv.

Nothing wrong with the z8 vs z8 Pro buy what your budget can afford.

See if you can download an iPTV viewing app from your TV's interface.

If so, you will need neither a box, nor an additional remote controller.
