Software to Record IPTV to PC

by UrAS73

I normally use my IPTV on Android TV/Firestone.

However for some programs (i.e. live sporting events that I’ll actually be at) I’d like to record the TV program to a PC so I can watch it back (or save it for posterity).

Is there any PC software that can do this (either to record at a certain time or just start recording (before I leave to go to the game and then just cut the bits I don’t want)).

VLC can do this. enter the URL: you want to watch, click the record button, then use any editing program you want to cut the best parts out.

Take a look at Channels DVR ( www.getchannels.com ). It does require a subscription, but it's well worth $8/mo. I've tried several of the options listed here, and in my opinion, Channels DVR is leading the pack. May be overkill for an occasional simple timed recording, though.

You can install FFmpeg for windows (free software), and then run it like this:
ffmpeg -i your_channel.m3u8 -c:v copy -c:a copy -t 00:45:00 output.ts
This will record the stream for 45 minutes. You can also play with windows scheduler to start the recording at any wanted time. But you need to make .bat file for that.

Tvheadend server. But it runs only on linux.

You claim you usually watch IPTV on Android devices. With the right IPTV app on Android (i.e. Tivimate, iMplayer, OTT Navigator and others) you can record the program to a SMB share on your PC. You can access those recordings from your Android device (as long as your PC is running), but since it is now on your PC you can go to the folder and play it with VLC or other media players right on the PC.
