Suggestions for an IPTV box that utilizes super high speed internet.

by Currie69

I currently have the buzz tv xpl 3000 and just upgraded to gigabit internet. Speed tests max out my box at 95 Mbps. Any suggestions for boxes that can use super high speed internet ? Thanks !

95 Mbps is probably functionally equivalent to 1000 Mbps when you're streaming a show since you can only visually watch the show in real time. I doubt even an 8K show at max resolution would saturate 95 Mbps when streamed in real time. However, you can add gigabit ethernet to almost any modern IPTV box that has USB 3.0 ports using this advice from good old Troypoint: https://troypoint.com/firestick-ethernet-adapter/

The "dongle" type devices I tested in my home all show relatively high connection speeds via Analiti speed test. My ISP speed is 200 MB and connecting via wifi on Firestick 4K, Tivo Stream 4K and Chromecast w. Google TV all showed around 120 to 140 MB as the connection. More than enough for buffer free IPTV.

Is that over VPN? Or without?

As always, the order of best to worst IPTV boxes applies.

  1. nVidia Shield (If you got the money and want the best, buy this)
  2. Google Chromecast with remote. (argue all you want, it's probably going to beat your benchmarks)
  3. Formuler Max Pro. (fantastic specs, but the modified interface puts it in 3rd place)
  4. Amazon FireStick. (cheap, easy to get, works well, tied to amazon, so know that going in.)
  5. whatever other stuff you can find lying around. Really, just get one of the first 4, you'll be happier.

That all said, I have a shitty android stick that I got from Walmart 5+ years ago that is able to do 4k streaming over wireless, so do you really need to get something that will test at gigabit speeds? I work in Online TV, and the best stuff we deal with is less than 20Mb/s You don't need faster than 50-60 Mb/s at this point.
