What’s with the inconsistencies with FPS? Europe/ UK has 25fps while US/Canada has 60fps. Why can’t they go up to 60? This trash 2012 fps ain’t working !

It has to do with how electrical power systems developed in those areas. In the US electricity works on 60hz cycles while in Europe it works on 50Hz. When television signal came along in the 1920/1930s it used this cycle to draw the interlaced video frame so US 60hz (30fps) and UK/Europe 50hz (25fps). As usual when standards are developed they have a tendency to stick around a very long time even after they have been out lived for backwards compatibility because consumers don't like when you change a standard and all their electronics become useless overnight, so here we are and btw those electrical standards are still in place because no government is going to spend the money to completely overhaul the entire power grid just so they do away with the inconsistency, as you put it.

In case you are wondering why the electrical systems developed differently between NA and Europe in a nutshell it is because electricity was discovered and developed first in North America and they came up with the 110V/60Hz power systems. Europe came later and by then more efficiencies were discovered in the delivery of power and thus Europe was able to use these new power efficiencies by using 220V/50hz. North America was too deep in 110/60 by that time to switch to 220/50 and so here we are nearly 200 years later.

PAL = 25 or double which is 50

NTSC = 30fps or double which is 60

Been like that since even back in the days with Nintendo and Sega consoles
