switching from 5Ghz to 2.4Ghz improved my iptv signal! No more buffering!

by Larabubamara

I just wanna share my experience. I'm using a CCWGTV, so I'm limited when it comes to using ethernet, unless I purchase a usb c hub. Connecting my dongle to 5Ghz wifi shows 250mb/s when performing a speed test. It's good enough for streaming Youtube and movies on services like Stremio and CinemaHD, but it struggles with IPTV! I'm using Tivimate and it buffers like crazy. I thought the problem was with my provider, until I came across a post that suggested switching to 2.4Ghz. As soon as I did that, bam! all that buffering has gone away, and the IPTV works flawlessly. I don't understand why because 2.4Ghz is giving me half the speed of 5Ghz! It seems like 2.4Ghz is more stable when it comes to IPTV streaming.

It depends on your setup. 5Ghz will provide more bandwidth (and faster speeds) but the distance and wall penetration of that signal is much reduced. 2.4Ghz will go a lot farther and through walls better, so if that's the situation, 2.4 is the better option.

5g is faster but 2.4g is more stable travels farther and goes through walls better.

Here's a link https://www.fastmetrics.com/blog/wifi/2-4-vs-5-ghz/ that does a great job of explaining the difference.

FireTV Max stick uses wifi 6 standard which is a newer standard (requires newer router) that combines the best attributes of the older bands with increased speeds. I'm not sure of other streaming devices that use that standard though.

First, never use a router to do your WIFI. Find a MESH unit ((found a Linksys Velop system on Marketplace)). Then, turn off wifi in your router. You do NOT want it processing wifi. Since I've done that I'm pulling 100MBS/down w/5G. (wifi 6). I can be in a building at the back of our property, inside of that building, in my car and still pull 3bars on my cellphone. So, yeah, going to a wifi antenna makes a very serious difference.

Note, you really need to get a CAT6 cable and run from router to your box/tv. This solves 100% of your problems and is much cheaper than the wifi setup. I've routed a CAT6 line to the front room where I'm using a GB hub to split to i7 pc running Smarters (IPTV) and Plex and also the primary WIFI hub.

At my mom's I had her get a TP Link for wifi. She also got a TP Link USB antennas for her two pc's in her room and they're pulling great signal / speed. But, for her Samsung TV for YouTube TV it's straight CAT5e from the router.

I only found this out coz my 5Ghz went down temporarily so I had to switch, I was pleasantly surprised, runs smooth now…
