Suggestions on IPTV boxes for seniors ?

Any suggestions on IPTV boxes for seniors ? I'm trying to get my parents away from their current TV service that there getting robbed on and switch over to an IPTV service.

I need some suggestions on good boxes. I use a Sheild TV but I'm not sure if that'll be too confusing for them.

They don't really use the EPG guide. They just search via channel number and a peice of paper that they have. Numbers on the remote are a must.

I'm just worried about pop-ups for software updates or other confusing things to happen. Mabey staying away from Android is a better idea ? Are mag boxes any good ?

Is Kodi a popular choice around here for IPTV player? What do most people use?

I have always used IPTV Simple Client PVR add-on with Kodi to stream IPTV m3u links. I feel it works "good enough" for me (I don't time shift or VOD, just stream channels). Do any other apps offer some improvements or features I could be missing out on?

Thanks friends.

IPTV Player with Portal URL capabilities

Hi All,

I've done some searching but I don't really know which players support portal URL.

I'm used to using TiviMate with M3u urls but that's no longer an option for me.

Trouble getting a IPTV app working on the new Chromecast with Google TV

Hi

I'm trying to get IPTV running on my new Chromecast with Google TV, but none of the ones I have tried will let me connect.

So far I have tried:

  • IPTV Smarters Pro
  • GSE SMART IPTV
  • OTT Navigator IPTV
  • IPTV Extreme

I'm connecting through NordVPN, this is working fine on my Android phone, so I should work on Chromecast with Google TV as well I hope?

Need help. Current mag box user, any better options?

Hi, I currently have a mag-420 box and when loading the portal I’m getting the error “STB not supported”. I’m pretty sure this is not an issue with my provider, but more so an issue with the mag box itself.

Through my googling, I came across people using firestick, chrome cast and other devices to stream IPTV. So I was wondering, should I just forget about the mag box and find a better way of streaming my IPTV? I’m not sure what is the best way to go about this so any help is appreciated.

TLDR: Currently using mag box for streaming. Wondering if there is better hardware to use.

Buzz-TV XPL3000, scheduled recording not working.

Hi ! I have a buzz-tv XPL3000 and scheduled recording won't work. What i do is go in EPG and select the show i want to schedule for record. It then appear in my scheduled recording. When it's time to record, it switch to the appropriate channel but don't actually record anything. After the show, the recording appear in the PVR recorded list but i can't open it. When i go check directly in my external HDD, i can see that it created the file but it's empty (Size is 0 Byte).

However, if i'm watching a channel and record it live, everything works fine, it record proprely. It's just the scheduled ones that doesn't work.

Any ideas how to fix that ?

IPTV channel crashes lgwebos

Hi guys. I hope you can give me an answer for this problem. I have a lgwebos and i use smartiptv as iptv player for a m3u link. There is a specific channel that when i play it, will freeze up my tv and it will restart. When it happens i cant do anything with the remote, just wait for it to restart. Its so frustrating. Sometimes it takes a few minutes for it to happen; sometimes after a restart if happens a few seconds later. Is there anything I can do to fix this? Thank you

Formuler GTV Catch-Up Question

Hi guys - just bought a Formuler GTV to play around with, coming from a Shield with Tivimate. My provider has catchup, and one of the things I love about TiviMate is the ability to change to a channel with catchup and rewind the _currently playing_ show instantly.

I can't seem to figure out how to do this with My TV Online 2 - it's great for navigating catchup for shows that have completed airing, but again, I want to be able to rewind a currently playing show. If I map a button to my remote for rewind and try that, it just asks me to insert storage media (for timeshifting channels WITHOUT catchup I imagine).

Any advice appreciated, thanks!

How To Install Live Channels App on Firestick/Android for Live Streaming

Idiot n00b pls help

So I just found out about this stuff, and finding sorta hard to find reliable and clear info. Or maybe I'm looking in all the wrong places.

Anyway. I want a device I can use with an app like TiviMate. Which I see recommend here a lot. (I understand that I need a separate provider to make it function) And also install "streaming APK's"

For a first device I want to spend as little money as possible. As mainly wanna use it as like a test. And see if it's simple enough for someone like my mom to use.

Where I live Amazon Fire Stick 4K and Google Chromecast with Google TV is like €80. I want to spend at least half of that.

Question is. Will a cheap Chinese device be sufficient? For example: A Sunnzo S9 Max | video review

Or will even a cheaper device suffice? Or will this just end in a frustrating experience? Also, does a box NEED to be rooted for any of this to work?

Btw I don't care about official google certification/Netflix DRM support. Also don't want to play games or anything like it on the device.

Apologies if my questions are too n00b-like. Just looking for a device to start with. Cheers.

Device question

Hi I currently use a firestick at the min, purely because when ive bought android boxes before the remotes are shockingly slow. My firestick can be hit and miss with speed of streams sometimes. I like to use smarters with vlc and dont really have issues. I was thinking of getting something different though. Can anyone recommend a decent android box with a decent fast remote? Thanks!

Certain channel has fast forwarded visuals with delayed audio

So I’ve just recently learned about IPTV as a whole about a month ago as I have a relative that’s been using it for a while now. I noticed just how better it is compared to paying for standard cable so I decided to use the same service they do. However, there is this certain channel which is the main one I use which always seems to have issues around the afternoon. Some days it’ll buffer while other days the visuals and the audio will be completely different with one being fast forwarded and the other delayed, as expressed in the title. This only seems to happen on certain times as other times it will run smoothly*. As previously mentioned, I’m still quite new to this and I’ve tried running speed tests and trying new IPTV apps on my Firestick and nothing seems to work, only thing I’m thinking it could be at this point is my provider.

*I realized this only seems to happen on that channel for my area done I’ve tried that same channel but from different regions and all seem to work. Still not sure how this could affect anything though.

TL;DR: Just got into IPTV and noticed the main channel I watch has issues around the afternoon time. Is there a way to fix this?

Filmon IPTV no longer working (Freeview)

So, years ago Filmon was a fantastic resource for IPTV links. A few years ago the direct IPTV links died. Does anyone know if this is still a possibility? Filmon provided stable UK freeview channels, they still do, I just can't incorporate it into my IPTv setup. I've attempted to use freely available m3u files, but they just keep failing after a week. I know it's available on Kodi, and through their app, but unable to place channels (BBC 1,2,3, ITV, Channel 4, Dave, More 4, and others) alongside my other IPTV channels.

Any help with this would be HUGELY appreciated!

(Note: This is a request for Freeview channels, not paid services.)

Nvidia Shield TV: Should I try it or keep the older box(es)

Here is my current situation: I have 2 TVs (Samsung and LG), each with its IPTV subscription (not the greatest but it's ok) and each TV has its own box ( MAG254 + mi-box). I'm trying to see if the box choice might help improve the experience a bit, thought I think the performance of the channels is very related to the subscriptions quality themselves,

So, I bought a used Nvidia Model: P2897. I understand that it's ranked high compared to other boxes. I do not have a remote for it though. I'm thinking to replace the MAG254 to see if there is a difference.

1- What do I need to do to install the Nvidia, should I first touch base with the IPTV seller to let him know that I'm a replacing the box, so he can give me some indications or some links?

2- Anyone has a link to a video that shows how to install the Nvidia box? I have no clue where to start!

3- If I buy a used Nvidia remote, will it be compatible with the box, do I need somehow to program it to make it work?

Thanks.

PS: please note that I'm not expert in all this hard/software TV world, just trying to read and learn and get the optimal solution to watch foreign TV channels from time to time ...

Update: I ended up buying an original Nvidia remote (second hand), used a mouse/USB dongle to get to the pairing menu, paired the remote and was able to use the box normally with the remote. Next, I will have to compare the performance of the shield/Mag/mi-box.
